These two Australian bars are among The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023
One bar makes its fifth straight appearance, whilst the list welcomes a newcomer from Melbourne.
First up, a message from our sponsor:
From Angel’s Envy in collaboration with Behind the bar with Cara Devine and some of Melbourne’s finest, comes the second masterclass in the Bourbon & Bubbles series.
At Heartbreaker on Monday October 23 at 1pm, Nat Yao & Michael Madrusan of Made in the Shade will discuss shaking and building cocktails using block ice and the best way to approach using mixers in cocktails. Michael will also share the story of mastering his craft bartending at NYC’s famed Milk & Honey and the fresh ingredient cocktail revolution.
Luminaries of the bar world have gathered here in Singapore — where, as Sam Ng pointed out last week, it’s never not hot and it’s almost always a million percent humidity — and they’re here because the glitzy caravan that is The World’s 50 Best Bars has rolled into town.
And they’ve just announced their list of the 50 best bars in the world, at a big gala ceremony for 1000 people here.
This year, again, two Australian bars have made the list.
Sydney bar Maybe Sammy once again featured on the list, coming in at 15 on the list this year. This latest result marks the fifth consecutive appearance of Maybe Sammy on The World’s 50 Best Bars list, with the bar featuring on every list since 2019.
And this year marks the first entry for Melbourne bar, Caretaker’s Cottage, since opening at the start of last year (and taking out the number one spot on the Boothby Best Bars VIC list last month). Caretaker’s Cottage lands at number 23 this year - a huge result.
Melbourne bar Byrdi came in at number 61 on the extended 51-100 list announced last week in advance of the 50 Best.
