This Champagne Old Fashioned is a tricked up bourbon & Coke you’ll love
A little absinthe goes a long way.
“It’s a bourbon and coke, but really good,” says Nathaniel White, of the Champagne Old Fashioned they’re serving at Melbourne whisky bar and neighbourhood joint, Goodwater.
Much in the way that, in the cocktail books of old, a Gin Cocktail would be ‘improved’ with dashes of this and that — often absinthe, sometimes maraschino cherry — so too is the humble bourbon and Coke here improved upon with a couple dashes of orange bitters, absinthe, cask strength bourbon and a drier style of cola.
Proof that a great drink doesn’t need to be fermented or vacuum distilled.
