Entries into the 2024 Rooster Rojo Rumble are now open.
Six entertaining, storytelling bartenders will be hosted in Sydney in May to compete in the national final, with cash prizes on offer and the winner scoring a trip of a lifetime to Greece to link up with Rooster Rojo bartenders from across the globe.
Here’s what you need to do.
When a drink becomes a thing, it’s not just because it tastes good. There’s always a big personality behind the drink telling stories to anyone who’ll listen.
Any bartender who’s spent five minutes behind the stick can cobble together a drink. Only the great ones become bigger than the bar — they entertain, they connect people, they're storytellers: the people come to see them; a great drink is just a bonus.
That’s what the Rooster Rojo Rumble is all about. Tell us a story, entertain us, make it memorable — make us want to tell everyone we know.
To enter, start with a drink: it’s got to have at least 30ml of any Rooster Rojo bottling: Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, Smoked Pineapple, or Mezcal — the rest is up to you (though, like a good story, you don’t want to include things that don’t need to be there, so keep it succinct).
And then tell us a story: it doesn’t have to relate to the drink (those stories are always a little suspect, right?), it doesn’t have to be true (the best bar stories rarely are) — but we’ve got to buy into it, so it better be great.
HOW TO ENTER — ENTRIES OPEN 1ST MARCH
1. Get a great drink together, one that tastes amazing, and includes at least 30ml of any Rooster Rojo product in Australia.
2. Make that drink, and take a photo of it, in portrait orientation in good light.
3. Record yourself telling a great story — be creative. Make us laugh, cry, all of it. Keep the video to less than 60 seconds — it doesn’t have to be the whole story, but make us want to hear it all in person. The smaller the file size, the better time you'll have uploading it.
4. Fill out the entry form below and upload 1) the photo of your drink; 2) your 60 second story video (keep the file size small where possible). Entries close 11:59pm AEST 31 March 2024.
In May 2024, six winners — one each from QLD, NSW/ACT, VIC, WA, TAS/NT, SA — will be hosted in Sydney for the national final (and a killer Rooster Rojo party). The winner will fly with Abbie Weir to Greece in September 2024 to link up with other Rooster Rojo bartenders from around the world to enjoy that country's bar culture. Second place will win $300 and third place will win $200.
